George Dale Loy, 84, of rural Effingham, IL, passed away at 5:46 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.

George was born on September 16, 1936, in Effingham County, IL, the son of William G. and Mary Elizabeth (Newkirk) Loy. He served in the United States Army as a tank driver in Germany from 1954 to 1957. He married Joyce Ann Mascher on October 17, 1959 in Effingham, IL.

George enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, trail riding and classic cars. He worked as an arbitrator for Denver Colorado Auto Auction, and also worked for Caterpillar in Decatur, IL. George was a member of the Watson Masonic Lodge for 41 years.

George leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Joyce Loy of rural Effingham; son, Jeffrey Dale (Kim) Loy of Watson; daughter, Jodi Renee Loy of Effingham; grandsons, Tanner Dale and Noah David; great-grandson, Ruger Daniel Dale due in September; sister, Maxine Pontious of Montrose; brothers, Walter Loy of Greenup and Clifford (Rita) Loy of Effingham; many loving nieces and nephews; and his little dog “Rocky.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorcie Williams; brothers, William “Boddies”, Calvin “Buddy”, Glenn “Doc”, and Earl; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Avanelle Mascher; sister-in-law, Lulubelle Winn; and several nieces and nephews.
