Leota M. McGee, 96, of Hord, IL, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery in rural Louisville. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Leota was born on July 12, 1924 in Effingham County, IL, the daughter of Roscoe and Cecil (Bushue) Shirley. She married John Tom McGee on July 8, 1942 and he preceded her in death on December 4, 1986. She was employed by Fedders for 29 years.

Leota was fond of music and loved painting and puzzles. One of her greatest enjoyments was quilting and crocheting baby blankets for her family and friends.

Leota is survived by daughter Kay (Bruce) Thompson, Allerton, and son Leslie Len (Nancy) McGee, Watson; sister Alverda (David) Tillema, Lake Lotawana, MO; sister-in-law Frankie Shirley, Effingham; grandchildren, John (Jay) Fancher, Stephanie (Andrew) Turner, James (Bridget) Fancher, Matthew (Sherri) McGee, and Sarah (Nathan) Kreke; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Symphony, and Reed Fancher; Olivia and Lucas Turner; Jacob and Nathan Fancher; Will, Thomas, Michael and Sam McGee; Johnathan, Benjamin and Kennedy Kreke; many nieces and nephews; and wonderful neighbors and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Clifford Shirley, and grandson Mark McGee.
