Gerard C. Bierman, 69, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL with family by his side.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bishop Creek. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery with military rites. A rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 7:00 p.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or donor’s choice. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here.

Gerard was born on February 21, 1952 on the family farm in Effingham, IL (Bishop Creek) the son of Bernard and Mildred (Schutte) Bierman.

Gerard graduated from Teutopolis High School in the Class of 1970. He was drafted and served his country in the United States Army from 1972-74. He married Carla Wittenberg on September 17, 1994 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. He was a lifelong dairy and grain farmer and loved every minute of it.

Gerard loved spending time with his family, playing croquet, and just being outdoors.

Gerard also loved giving his dogs a ride in the truck every day. He was a lifelong member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and a member of the Teutopolis American Legion Post 924.

Gerard is survived by his wife, Carla Bierman of Effingham; daughter, Cathleen Bierman (fiancé, Weston Peno) of Effingham; siblings, Jane (Bob) Ordner, Clete (Ruth) Bierman, Mary (David) Niemerg, Mike (Mary Jo) Bierman, Tony (Wilma) Bierman, Geralyn (Allen) Koester, Barbara (Steve) Hutmacher, Bernice (Jerry) Sandschafer, Steve (Diane) Bierman, and Jeanette (Joe) Runde; sister-in-law, Vickie Budde; brother-in-law, Darrell (Debbie) Wittenberg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Kristin Hutmacher; nephew, Keith Koester; and parentsin-law, Melvin and Marilyn Wittenberg.
