Dorothy E. Ferguson, 93 of Effingham, passed into her heavenly home on Monday March 22, 2021 at HSHS St Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2021 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Westlawn Cemetery in Newton. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to time of service Monday morning at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Dorothy was born February 28, 1928 in Altamont Illinois the daughter of Cleveland and Irma (Curtis) Piper. She married Lee Ferguson on August 9, 1968. He preceded her in death on June 17,1979. Dorothy spent 30 plus years working her way up to a plant foreman for the Ettlebrick Shoe Company in Robinson and Newton. She moved to Effingham and worked in the produce department at Martin's IGA for nearly 30 years. In her retirement years she enjoyed spending time completing puzzles, organizing social events, and volunteering at her apartment complex where she met many special friends, including Layla and Dawson. Her pride and joy for her energies were her daughter Carol and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her love was watching and following her great grandchildren’s golf and basketball activities and events including daily phone calls.

Dorothy is survived by her grandsons, Ryan (Theresa) Gowin of Sarasota, FL and his daughters, Ashley (Gowin) Creamer and Bailey Gowin, Jason (Theresa) Gowin of Charleston, IL and their sons Alex (fiancé, Ali Carlson) Gowin, Keegan Gowin, and Logan Gowin; sisters, Helen Yougfelt of Hobart, IN and Thyra McKown of Lubbock TX; step-children, Jim Ferguson, Waunita (Ferguson) Seidel, Maryann Ferguson; grandson, Curtis (Melissa) Ferguson, Jr, as well as countless great and great-great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Carol Gowin; sisters, Alene Bunton, Margaret Council, Marie Purcell, Marilyn Piper; brothers, Bill Piper and George Piper and step-son, Curtis (Jan) Ferguson, Sr.
