Dr. John Thomas Kroeger, 67, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at his home with his family by his side.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2021, at Sacred Heart Church, in Effingham. The funeral mass will be streamed on Youtube: SacredHeartEffingham. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family.

John Thomas Kroeger was born in Effingham, IL, to Catherine “Katie” and Harold Kroeger on March 23, 1953. He attended Sacred Heart and St. Anthony Schools, where he was active in sports. He attended University of Illinois and Southern Illinois School of Dental Medicine, where he earned his doctorate. On November 10, 1979, he was united in marriage with Cheryl Tomm of Delavan, IL. Together, they opened John’s dental office, where they pursued his passion for 41 years. John served in several positions at Sacred Heart Church and on the Sacred Heart School board.
John is survived by his wife, Cheryl Kroeger of Effingham; daughters, Jessica (Dave) Leu and Caitlin (Andy) Potere; and sisters, Linda Kroeger (husband, Don Schuessler) and Mary Macnider (husband, Jon).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Katie Kroeger; and brother, Hal Kroeger.
