Evelyn "June" Mietzner (89) of Effingham

Evelyn “June” Mietzner, 89, of Effingham, IL passed away at home, surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.

June was born on June 17, 1931, in Cowden, the daughter of Charles and Florence (Tipsword) Peifer. She worked in the Effingham County Courthouse for 20 years, the Union 76 Truck Stop in Effingham for 13 years and she retired from Kroeger, when they closed their doors, after 14 years of service. June was a past member of the Free Methodist Church in Cowden. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking and caring for stray kittens.

June is survived by her son, Michael G. (Nechelle) Sarver of Effingham and two grandsons, Matthew Mark Workman of Altamont and Christopher Michael (Kaitlin) Sarver of Effingham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Florence Peifer; daughter, Diane Dale Workman; three brothers: Dale Peifer, Clem Peifer and Kenneth Peifer and two sisters: Velma Slifer and Faith Kessler.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Lockart Green Funeral Home in Cowden followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Neville officiating. Burial will take place in Mound Cemetery in rural Cowden. Memorials may be made in June’s name to the Effingham County Humane Society. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden is assisting the family.
