Henry “Leroy” Stroud, 78, of Effingham, IL, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 1, 2021.

Leroy was born on May 19, 1942 to John Draper Stroud and Ruby (Kirkham) Stroud in Wheeler, IL. He later moved to Effingham, where he finished high school. In 1971, Leroy began a 22 year career in law enforcement as a Deputy at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department. Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Karen (Tipsword) Stroud. On May 19, 1973 Leroy and Karen wed at a small chapel in Eminence Missouri while on one of their annual canoe trips. For the majority of the 1980’s Leroy and family operated the Effingham County Sportsman’s Club. Leroy was most passionate about traveling with Karen, spending time in Florida, playing golf, mushroom hunting, sudoku, and being onery to his grandkids. Leroy was an active Sacred Heart Catholic Parish member and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Additional club affiliations include the Elks, Masonic Lodge, and Moose.

Leroy is survived by his 3 children, Debbie (Mark) Moschenrose, John (Amanda) Stroud, and Holly (Ryan) Finney; grandchildren, Al (Cassie) DiGregorio, Jakob Stroud, Nick Martin, Avery Stroud, and Owen and Zoey Finney; great granddaughters, Kayliann, Miabella, and Gretchen DiGregorio; sister, Janet Rentfrow; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, Karen; step-father, Norbert Kenter; brother, Charles Stroud; and brother-in-law, Ronald Rentfrow.

A private mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery on Moccasin. Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church, Effingham County Sheriff’s Department, or the Effingham County Sportsman’s Club and may be received at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N.
