Michael Anthony Kuhns, 61, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021 at his home.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2021, at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Private family services with be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham.

Due to Covid-19 concerns, please wear a mask for all services and follow all social distancing guidelines. Limitations to gathering size will be observed. We kindly ask you to pay your respects in a timely manner.

Michael was born on August 26, 1959, in Effingham, IL, the son of Anthony “Tony” and Deloris (Bivins) Kuhns. He married Gwendolyn Wendling on October 4, 1980 and she survives.

Mike worked for the City of Effingham street and sewer department, retiring in 2010 after more than 30 years of service. He later worked for JTC Petroleum Company. He was a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 335 in Effingham for many years and an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 3. He was an avid sportsman and volunteered for numerous social activities and events. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham.

Mike is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gwen of Effingham; daughter, Brittney (husband, Tyler) Royse of Mason; sons, Dylan Kuhns of Effingham, Brody Kuhns of Altamont, and Ethan (fiancée, Chyanne) Kuhns of Effingham; grandchildren, Miles, Logan, and Karsyn Kuhns and Westen Royse; sister, Renee (husband, Doug) Elmore of Dieterich; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Linder and Marilyn Wendling of Altamont; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mike (wife, Leslie) Wendling of Altamont, Lloyd (wife, Annette) Wendling of Altamont, and Travis (wife, Michelle) Wendling of Altamont.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Ashley Kuhns.
