Mary Evelyn Harpster, age 89, of St. Peter, Illinois passed away at 10:18 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, Illinois.

There will be a private family funeral service. There will be a public walk-through viewing from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Illinois. Pastor Ryan Meyer will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, St. Peter, Illinois. Mary was born on May 16, 1931 in Vandalia, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur “Pete” and Della (Welch) Donaldson. She married James Edward Harpster on January 3, 1954 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, Illinois. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Illinois and St. Peter Legion Auxiliary. She loved reading, playing cards, traveling, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Dane Harpster (wife Belinda) of St. Peter, Illinois; grandson, Mitchell Harpster (wife Gretchen) of Jackson, Missouri; granddaughters, Amanda Eller (husband Ben) of Jackson, Missouri and Mahala Jacquin (husband Nathan) of St. Peter, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Madison and Dru Eller of Jackson, Missouri, Owen, Aaron, and Henry Harpster of Jackson, Missouri, Harper Jacquin of St. Peter, Illinois and one on the way; brothers, Bob Donaldson of St. Elmo, Illinois and Don “Duck” Donaldson (wife Betty) of Ramsey, Illinois; sisters, Donna Price (husband Norris) of Terre Haute, Indiana and Carol Durbin of Stanbury Park, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur “Pete” and Della Donaldson; husband, Edward Harpster; brothers, James and Carl Donaldson; sisters, Cora Bushert and Barb Cook.
