Mary Auburn Stevenson, 93, of Shelbyville, IL passed away at 3:55 a.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Shelbyville Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Shelbyville, IL.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville followed by graveside services at Glenwood Cemetery with Darrell Best officiating. Memorials may be made in Mary’s name to SIU School of Medicine Camp COCO (Children’s Oncology Camp Organization), P.O. Mary was born on May 30, 1927, in Arthur, the daughter of Louie and Mabel (Korte) Humphrey. She attended school near Arthur and attended school in Decatur including Stephen Decatur High School. Mary and Ansel Auburn were united in holy matrimony on October 6, 1945 and were blessed with three sons, Richard, Dino and Gary. They celebrated 39 years of marriage before Ansel’s passing on June 18, 1985. Mary then married James Stevenson on October 11, 1988 in Paducah, KY and they were blessed with 24 years of marriage before his passing on May 3, 2013. Mary worked at Oaks Products for nine years, the family then moved to Shelbyville in 1954 where she worked at Park Laundry for 17 years and was a waitress at the VFW in Shelbyville for over 25 years. Mary loved to be outdoors tending to her flowers and garden. When she was not outdoors, she could usually be found sitting quietly with her crocheting. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 81 and a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 4829, both of Shelbyville. She served as Past President of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Post Chaplain.

Surviving is her son, Gary (Penny) Auburn of Shelbyville; stepson, Charles Richard “Rick” (Debbie) Stevenson of Alta Loma, CA; granddaughters: Tina (Jamie) O’Brien of Decatur, Andee Auburn of Shelbyville, Stephanie Stanford of Decatur and Wendi Brush of Mattoon; grandsons: Justin (Amy) Schultz of Effingham, Steve Auburn, Richie Auburn and David Auburn and several great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Louie and Mabel Humphrey; husbands: Ansel Auburn and James Stevenson; sons: Richard Auburn and Dino Auburn and sister, Lucille Queary.
