Luella V. Braasch, 94, of Altamont, died at 1:20 a.m. Friday, January 1, 2021, at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.

A private family funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2021 at St. Paul (ELCA) Lutheran Church, Altamont with Rev. Maria Bonine officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A public visitation will be held for one hour prior to service time. Memorial contributions are requested to Lutheran Care Center or the St. Paul Cemetery Association. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, is assisting the family with arrangements. Covid-19 protocol, including, but not limited to face covering and social distancing will be required.

Luella was born on Thursday, October 14, 1926 on the family farm north of Dieterich to Gotleib and Ella (Siefken) Gust. She married Gerhard (Pete) Braasch on December 9, 1951 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Island Grove. In her younger years, she was employed at Petty’s Department Store. After her marriage to Gerhard, she was a devoted wife and mother raising her family. After her children were grown, she began her employment at Lutheran Care Center where she spent the next 22 years caring for others. Luella was a devoted member of St. Paul (ELCA) Lutheran Church. She was a member of the In Stitches quilting group at St. Paul. She was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels, Altamont and at the Effingham Braille Center for many years. She and Pete loved spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending their school and sporting events, even into their 90’s. She enjoyed gardening and mowing. Pete and Luella enjoyed playing pinochle with a group of friends for many years and had many good times traveling with close friends.

She is survived by; her husband of over 69 years, Gerhard Braasch; sons, Dennis (Debra) Braasch, St. Elmo, Gary (Susan) Braasch, Altamont, Keith (Angie) Braasch, Altamont; daughter, Sharon (Kyle) Harper, Altamont; 4 grandchildren, April (Matt) Nolen, Jennifer (Dane) Milleville, Michelle (Tyler) Winter, Alec Braasch; 9 grandchildren, Marlee Nolen, Lillian Nolen, Steven Barton, Perry Manley, Garrett (Taylor) Buzzard, Tessa Manley, Kade Milleville, Carson Milleville, Dayton Winter, and Haley Winter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by; her parents, brothers, Howard (Betty) Gust, Harry Gust, and Vernon Gust; grandson, Randy Manley.
