Ilda L. Wendling, 93, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at The Glenwood in Effingham.

Private family funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, IL. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham. Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Due to Covid-19 concerns, please wear a mask for all services and follow all social distancing guidelines.

Ilda was born on June 9, 1927 in Watson, IL, the daughter of John T. and Gertrude Ethel (Gilbert) Davis. She married Melvin Wendling on February 8, 1948, in Effingham, IL. He preceded her in death on May 13, 2002.

Ilda retired from the State of Illinois Department of Public Aid after 30 years of service. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. John’s Altar Guild, and St. John’s Lydia Guild. Ilda volunteered as a greeter at The Cross for many years.

Ilda is survived by her sons, Doug (Brenda) Wendling of Effingham and Phillip (Tammy) Wendling of Effingham; grandson, Adam Wendling; step-grandsons, Trevor Stortzum and Lucas Stortzum; and 4 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; and brothers, Plaford Davis, Charles Lavergne Davis, and Glen Davis.
