Roger G. Borries, 91, of Teutopolis, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, IL.

A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Teutopolis. Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sister Ethelbert Hall, the former Monastery Museum under renovation in Teutopolis or Catholic HEART Workcamp. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here

Roger was born on January 15, 1929, in Teutopolis, IL, the son of Albert and Florence (Hardiek) Borries. He was united in marriage to Betty L. Smith on May 6, 1950 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Teutopolis, IL.  

Roger served his country in the Army National Guard and was activated to stand guard for the St. Anthony Hospital fire. During this time, Roger saw the need for bricklayers which led him to attending trade school in Bloomington for bricklaying. He was a lifelong bricklayer and was a member of the Bricklayers Local 8 for over 70 years. He was dedicated to the people of Teutopolis and served as Township Supervisor for over 30 years. He was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and a past Faithful Navigator. In retirement, Roger had enjoyed camping with his wife and grandchildren. He was active at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

Roger is survived by his children, Susan (Sam) Reese of Urbana, Rex (Linda) Borries of Dieterich, Michael V. (Debbie) Borries of Effingham, Ann Thomas of Teutopolis, Peg (Dan) Hille of Effingham, Donald (Lisa) Borries of Effingham, and Dennis (Sue) Borries of Teutopolis; 15 grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and sisters, Rose Ann (Ray) Goeckner of Teutopolis and Ruth Ann Miller of Addison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; and siblings, Robert Borries, Sister Alice Borries SSND, Albert Borries Jr. and Lucille Sheehan.
