Jerald D. “Jerry” Boerngen, 81, of Mason, IL, was called to his Heavenly home on Monday, December 14, 2020 at his home.

Private family funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Louisville, IL with burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Louisville or Lutheran Care Center, Altamont. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here.

Jerald was born on May 10, 1939, in rural Clay County, IL, the son of Arthur and Leona (Wendling) Boerngen. He married Kathi Allen on August 16, 1964 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham.

Jerry worked for Consolidated Communications as an installer repairman for 32 years before retiring. He then worked as a carpenter for 10 more years before fully retiring. Jerry enjoyed being with his family and was also active with his church, where he served as the Financial Secretary for 38 years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved antique tractors. Jerry liked to bird watch, especially the purple martins. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, bluegrass music, playing his harmonicas, gardening, and tending to the fruit trees and his yard.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Kathi Boerngen of Mason; sons, Brian (Jennifer) Boerngen and Wayne (Kelly) Boerngen both of Mason; grandchildren, Faith (Jake) Bohnhoff, Nathan Boerngen, Jordan (Tyler) Budde, and Allyssa Boerngen; siblings, Faye (Allen) Tomkins of Effingham, Loralee (Chuck) Mayberry of Effingham, Eldon (Nancy) Boerngen of Belleville, and Richard (Carol) Boerngen of rural Montrose; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Madonna Hudson; and great-nephew, Nicolas Londoño.
