Joan M. Cunningham, 84, formerly of Mason, IL, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, IL.

Private family funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Louisville with burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Joan was born on May 7, 1936, in Clay County, IL, the daughter of Otto and Emma (Bergman) Budde. Joan was baptized on May 24, 1936 and confirmed on May 28, 1950. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Louisville. She worked at the Four Sisters Garment Factory in Flora. When it closed, she attended cosmetology school in Olney, IL. For many years, Joan and her sister Elnora Budde owned and operated the Jo-El Beauty Shop in rural Mason. Joan enjoyed shopping, sewing, crocheting, visiting with her customers, and spending time with family.

Joan is survived by her brothers, Eldred (Betty) Budde of Argenta and Darrel Budde of Louisville; sisters, Carolyn (Howard) Hammer of Altamont and Judy (Sam) Stuemke of Altamont; sister-in-law, Loma Budde of Louisville; and 12 nieces and 13 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ricky Cunningham; sisters, Bernice (Ray) Wolff, Elnora Budde, and Janice Holste; brothers, Henry Budde, Rufus Budde, Delmar Budde, and Mervin Budde; sister-in-law, Doris Budde; and nephew, Mark Budde.
