Darlene Zimdars, 91, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Private family services will be held at the First Christian Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Old UnionCemetery in rural Louisville, IL.

Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Due to Covid-19 concerns, please wear a mask for all services and follow all social distancing guidelines. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Darlene was born on August 26, 1929, in Clay County, IL, the daughter of Dewey and Nellie (Poe)VanDyke. She married Ralph Zimdars on August 18, 1956, and he preceded her in death on April 28, 1996.

Darlene was employed 49 years at Martin’s IGA in the Deli Department and loved her time there. She also loved playing bingo. Darlene enjoyed cooking and baking and even won awards at the Effingham County Fair for her cakes. She was known for her German Chocolate Cake.

Darlene is survived by her daughters, Linda Niebrugge (Alan) and Lisa Friese (Roger); grandchildren, BradNiebrugge (Tyndall), Brandon Niebrugge (Teal), Ashley Haslett (Larry), and Mitchell Friese (Christiana); great-grandchildren, Liam Niebrugge, Stetson Niebrugge, Emma Haslett, and Finn Haslett; and 2nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; son, Dennis; sisters, Marilyn Murphy(Russell) and Wanda Worthey (Charles); and nephew, Donnie Worthey.
