Ivan Gene "Papa" Noffke (90) of Effingham

Ivan Gene (Papa) Noffke, age 90, of Effingham passed away at 8:05 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2020 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Graveside services with Military Rites honoring his life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Efingham with Reverend E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon is assisting the family.

Ivan was born on February 23, 1930 in Windsor, Illinois the son of Otto and Margaret (Zalman) Noffke. He married Bettye Beavers Varda in 1954. She preceded him in death in 1993.

Survivors include his sons, Burt (Jeanie) Varda of Stephen City, VA, Tony (Janice) Varda of Lutz, FL; grandchildren, Anthony (Kristy) Varda of Stephen City, VA, Joseph (Tamara) Varda of Leesburg, VA, Angela (John) Kronewitter of Effingham, IL, Jason Varda of Effingham; great-grandchildren, Zachary Kronewitter of Townville, SC, Madeleine Varda of Bloomington, IN, Denisa Varda of Lutz, FL, Ciara Kronewitter of Belleville, IL, Gage Varda of Richmond, VA, Gavin Varda of Leesburg, VA, Isabella Kronewitter of Effingham, IL and Justin Varda of Leesburg, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters; and granddaughter, Tina Varda.

Ivan served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed at GE in Mattoon for 33 years before retiring. Ivan was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
