Larry Woodrow Mulvey was born on August 26, 1937, in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Woodrow Wilson “Woody” and Mary Helen (Dale) Mulvey. He married Barbara Cooley on June 24, 1956, at First Baptist Church in Newton, Illinois. Larry graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1955. He was a hard worker, first working at Newton Box and Basket Company and later Jasper Wood Products. He took this experience to establish Mulvey Wood products.

Larry began his law enforcement career with the Jasper County Sheriff’s office as a chief deputy, and served as Sheriff for a 6-month term. He then went on to serve the City of Newton as an Officer. Larry was elected as Jasper County Sheriff two terms and retired after 8 years of service.

Larry enjoyed raising and racing standardbred (harness) horses with his family, particularly on the Illinois county fair race circuit.

Larry was a proud member of the Democratic Party. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening, supporting the Chicago Cubs and taking the grandkids on Ranger rides. A much-adored Papaw, he would do about anything for his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Even from the comfort of his home, he wanted play-by-play of all the great grandkids' sporting events.
