Elbert Roy Karnes (77) of rural Beecher City, Illinois died at 2:13 in the afternoon of Thursday November 5, 2020 at Aperion Care in St. Elmo where he resided for the past two years.

Visitation for the family and friends will be held on Monday afternoon November 9, 2020 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday November 10, 2020 both at the Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont, Illinois. 

Christian Burial Services at the family lot next to his wife, will be held in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery, rural Fayette County, Loudon Township near St. Elmo, Illinois following the funeral services.

Elbert Karnes was born on January 27, 1943 in Decatur, Illinois into the family of J. R. and Ruth Starkey-Karnes one of twelve siblings with nine brothers and 2 sisters. Elbert wed Ruthie Belle Hubbert on October 8, 1966 in Millers’ Chapel, near Funkhouser by Rev. Charles Mayfield. She preceded Elbert in death on August 6, 1992. He was employed by Fedders USA in Effingham for many years until the closing of the Effingham facility, then retiring.

He is survived by his: 2-Sons: Walter Albert (wife, Beth) Karnes of Beecher City, Illinois and their Sons: Josh and Ozzy Karnes and William Louis (wife, Barbara) Karnes of Beecher City, Illinois and their Daughters: Brittni and Sydnee Karnes and Sydnee’s daughter Lily McWhorter; 2-Daughters: Lynnette Eunice (husband, Raoul) Trahan of Brownstown, Illinois and their Sons Tyler Sharp and Taylor Sharp and Stepson: Damien Askew and his 2 Daughters: Arealynn Sharp and Gracie Lynn Sharp and Son: Paul Marius Trahan; Miss Elizabeth Johann Karnes of Beecher City, Illinois; 5-Brothers: Joe (wife, Opal) Karnes of California, Stanley (wife, Rita) Karnes of Monticello, Illinois, Russel (wife, Betty) Karnes of Monticello, Illinois; Ivan (wife, Elaine) Karnes of St. Elmo, Illinois; Donald Karnes of Shelbyville, Illinois; Owen Karnes of Brownstown, Illinois; Irvin (wife, Wanda) Karnes of Tower Hill, Illinois and Danny (wife, Nancy) Karnes of Pana, Illinois.

Elbert was preceded in death by Parents: Jeanie Ray (J.R.) Karnes and Ruth Naomi Starkey-Karnes; Wife: Ruthie Belle Hubbert-Karnes; Brother: Charles and his wife, Dorothy Karnes; 2-Sisters: Freida (husband, Larry) Yakel and Lorena (husband, Kenny) Smith.
