Neal Austin McCann (83) of Newton

Neal Austin McCann, age 83, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 12:15 AM Friday, August 21, 2020, at Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 24, 2020, at Central Christian Church in Newton, Illinois, with Mike Knepper officiating. Burial will be in the Brick Cemetery north west of Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service. In loving memory of Neal, memorials may be made to the Central Christian Church. Arrangements are under the care of Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Neal was born on June 12, 1937, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Herschel and Minnie (Jinright) McCann. He graduated from Newton Community High School with the class of 1955. Neal was united in marriage to Shirley Piercefield, on June 27, 1958, in Newton, Illinois. Neal was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Central Christian Church. He was a avid woodworker and crafted several pieces of furniture. Neal enjoyed tractor pulling and for many years pulled his Ford tractor “Babe the Blue Ox”.

Neal is survived by: Wife of 62 years – Shirley McCann of Newton, Illinois; Children – Penny (Bob) Hoeszle of West Salem, Illinois; Kevin McCann of Springfield, Illinois; Will McCann of Newton, Illinois; and Jason (Suzie) McCann of Newton, Illinois; Grandchildren – Tina Miller, Travis Warren, Abby McCann, Ajay McCann and Mike (Megan) Hall; 7 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild.

Neal was preceded in death by his parents, twin sister Neta Smith, infant twin sisters, grandson Jacob Neal McCann and his father and mother-in-law Lawrence and Lilly Piercefield.
