Roger A. Renschen (92) of rural Effingham

Roger A. Renschen, 92 of Effingham, died with his family by his side early Monday morning, August 10, 2020, at his lifelong home.

Roger was born in the same home on June 11, 1928 and lived in this house all but two years of his life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2020 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities or the Sister Ethelbert Renovation Project in care of St. Francis Church in Teutopolis.

Roger was born to Ben and Elizabeth (Wente) Renschen. He graduated from Teutopolis High School in 1947. Roger married Mary Jane Keck on April 27, 1957. They had 2 children, Steve (Patty McDonald) of Sunset Hills, MO and Julia (Jason) Schulz of Glen Ellyn, IL. Roger also had 8 grandchildren, Sam, Nick and Mary Kate Renschen and Isabella, Sophia, Scarlett, Alex and Amelia Schulz.

Roger was a “Jack of all Trades” and an honest, hard worker. He worked as a cement finisher for Grunloh Construction and Swingler Construction and maintained the family Centennial farm on the side. Later in his career, Roger was the President of Home Farmer’s Mutual Insurance Company in Teutopolis. He took great pride in his work and loved keeping his home well-kept.    

Roger also loved his community. He was a lifelong, faithful member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a loyal member of Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus Council #2874.    

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Helen (Ben) Mihlbachler, Celeste (Albert) Willenborg, Ralph (Madonna) Renschen, Bertha Renschen, Catherine (aka Sister Rosita) Renschen, Rosemary Renschen, and Henry (Patricia) Renschen. Roger was the youngest of 8 siblings with the oldest being 20 years older than him.   Consequently, Roger is survived by his immediate family and numerous nieces and nephews along with his brother-in-law, Vincent “Bing” and wife, Anna Keck.
