Loretta "Sue" Goebel, 70, of Lexington, KY, passed away Saturday, March 28. 2020 at St. Joseph’s Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jerry, daughter Shelli & granddaughter Kaylee Hopper of Lexington, Kentucky, daughter Shauna Wing of Knox, Indiana, daughter Annette (Brett) Carachi of Acton, Ontario, Canada. Brothers Victor R. (Erma) Barbee & Larry (Betty) Barbee, both of Louisville, Illinois. Sister-in-law Christie Jones-Murphy of Strasburg, Illinois. Brother-in-law’s Mike (Cindy) Goebel of Branson, Missouri, Paul (Judy) Goebel, of Montrose , Illinois, & Chuck (Sandy) Goebel of Sandwich, Illinois As well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews.

She was born October 19, 1949 at the family home in Bible Grove, Illinois after a fire at the hospital. She went on to marry Jerry on March 11, 1967. She received her beautician license and cut hair for many years as well as working with Jerry on the farm. After leaving the farming industry, Jerry became a farrier by trade and they travelled to several states, including Illinois, Kentucky, and Florida, Pennsylvania, and New York. They eventually settled full time in Lexington in 2000 and retired in 2015 after 30 years in the business.

She was preceded in death by her parents James & Margaret Barbee and her in-laws, Roy & Virginia Goebel & one brother-in-law, Joseph Goebel. She loved her faith, family, and friends. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and cooking for anyone and everyone who needed it. And she was a huge fan of her University of Kentucky Wildcats Basketball.

A memorial service honoring the life of Sue will take place at Red Brush Christian Church in Louisville, Illinois at 1pm, Saturday, August 15, 2020 with visitation from 12:00 to 1:00pm. Triplett & Neal Funeral Home in Louisville is assisting the family with local arrangements. In lieu of flowers; donations can be made in her memory to an organization that she loved and believed in: Sow The Word, 206 S. Stewart Rd., #6 Mission, TX 78572-6361 this is a nonprofit, tax deductible organization that feeds, clothes, and teaches the word of God to the children less fortunate in Mexico.
