Ruby Dunaway (88) of Cowden

Ruby D. Dunaway, 88, of Cowden, passed away at 11:35 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham with her loved ones by her side.

Ruby was born on August 10, 1931, in Shelby County, the daughter of Everett and Gertrude (Doran) Allsop. She and Ivan McBride were united in holy matrimony and he preceded her in death in September 1990. Ruby married Donald Dunaway on December 25, 1993. She was a member of the Cowden Free Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Ruby was a homemaker who enjoyed the outdoors and making her strawberry jam. She was as well known for her strawberry jam as she was for checking in on her family and friends. Ruby touched many lives and was loved by all who knew her.

Surviving are her husband, Donald Dunaway of Cowden; children: Judy Halliwell of Pittsburgh, PA, Ben (Elena) McBride of Danville, Tim (Debbie) Dunaway of Cowden, Tina (JR) Richards of Cowden, Teri (Steve) Miller of Shelbyville, Tammie (Tim) Massengill of Neoga, Jane (Harold) Boehm of Cowden and Joan (Neil) Estes of Energy; 21 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; sisters: Helen (Don) Spicer of Chino Valley, AZ and many nieces and nephews, all who loved her dearly.

Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband, Ivan and four brothers, sister Delores Jones and bother- in-law Doc Jones.

A Celebration of Life service that was to be held Sunday August 9, 2020 has been canceled due to the rising number of COVID cases in the area.
