Medford M. Shoemaker (91) of Effingham

Medford Maurice Shoemaker, age 91 of Effingham, IL passed away at 5:15 PM – Friday, March 8, 2013 at St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.

Funeral services celebrating Medford’s life will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Blake-Wright Funeral Home in Dieterich, IL. Burial will be in the Scott Cemetery near Winterrowd, IL.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM – Monday, March 11, 2013 at the funeral home.

Medford was born on August 22, 1921 in Jasper County, IL the son of George and Pearl (Shoemaker) Gerth. He married Dorothy D. Norton on May 23, 1942 and she preceded him in death on August 16, 2003.

Medford was a farmer and owned and operated Shoemaker Soil Service in Dieterich and Winterrowd for many years. Medford was a member of the Winterrowd Christian Church; Winterrowd Masonic Lodge #664; Shriner and member of the Ainad Temple; member of the Order of the Eastern Star Edgewood Chapter #787 and Dieterich Ruritan Club. He enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar, making lights out of flower pots, raising watermelons and making pickles which he enjoyed sharing with his friends and family.

Medford is survived by: 3 Children – Linda Packer of Effingham, IL, Dennis (Carolyn) Shoemaker of Louisville, IL, Alan Shoemaker of Lillian, AL, Special Friend and Companion – Juanita Roberts-Lindsay of Effingham, IL, 10 Grandchildren 24 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.

Medford was preceded in death his parents, wife, son Harold Wayne Shoemaker, great grandson Tyler Walker and a brother Harley Gerth who was killed in Korean Conflict.
