Albert W. Zimmerman, 97, of Altamont died at 6:00pm Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.

Private family funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church, Altamont with Rev. Paige Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Altamont. Memorials in his honor may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Altamont, Sean McCash Scholarship Fund of the Olney Arts Council and Ballard Nature Center, Altamont. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Albert was born on Saturday, January 27, 1923 in Altamont to Charles A. and Lola M. (Ehlers) Zimmerman. On August 28, 1949 he married Marcella I. Klitzing and they celebrated over 70 years of marriage. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII and had been a life-long farmer. He was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church, Altamont where he dutifully embraced many roles and served in various capacities over the years. He was a member of the Gieseking-Schwerdtfeger VFW Post 7676, Altamont.

He is survived by his beloved family including his wife, Marcella of Altamont; daughters, Alice Dawkins and her husband Ed of Louisville and Sue Powley and her husband Robert of Manchester, MO; and grandchildren, Travis Powley of St. Louis, MO, Anthony (Janessa) Dawkins of Louisville, Rachel (Adam) Porter of Charleston, and Wesley (Hillary) Dawkins of Louisville.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Wayne Richard Zimmerman, in infancy and a grandsons Sean McCash and Tim Dawkins.
