Dorothy R. Dobe (96) of Effingham

Nineteen years after losing her husband, life partner, and best friend, Dorothy R. Dobe, 96, of Effingham, Illinois, joined her husband, Don, in the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, April 24, 2020 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Private family services will be held with entombment in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis, Indiana. Arrangements are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, Illinois.

Dorothy was born on February 23, 1924, in Baltimore, Maryland, the youngest of six children. She married Harry Donald Dobe on June 14, 1947 and they were together for 54 years. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2001. Two children were born to this union.

Dorothy's life involved extensive travel and frequent moves due to her husband's career. She made a home for her family in 14 different places, including 5 years in Germany where Don was working. They had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe during those years. For the past 19 years, she lived in Effingham, most recently at the Villas of Holly Brook.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Mike) Schmitz of Effingham and her son, Donald (Karen) Dobe of Lakeland, Florida. She is also survived by 4 grandsons, Jason Raak and Adam (Alise) Raak both of North Carolina and Harrison (Kim) Dobe and Logan (Allison) Dobe both of Chicago as well as 2 great-grandchildren, Gavin Dobe and Grace Raak.

Welcoming her to Heaven are her husband, parents, 4 brothers and one sister as well as numerous friends and other family members she was anxious to see again. A life well lived and a long awaited reunion.
