Leroy E. Wente, 84, of Effingham, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham, with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Leroy was born on February 23, 1936, in Sigel, Illinois, the son of Walter and Harriett (Springer) Wente. He married Jeannine R. Joergens on March 20, 1965. She preceded him in death on May 28, 2005. Leroy was a veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed spending time and visiting with his grandchildren. He retired as a truck driver from Kabbes Trucking Company. Leroy enjoyed going to tractor shows and collecting John Deere miniatures. He also enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana University basketball.

Leroy is survived by his daughter, Karla (Tom) Breitenbucher of Bourbonnais, Illinois; grandchildren, Kaylee Breitenbucher and Cole Breitenbucher; siblings, Mary Lou (Ted, deceased) Esker, Don (Rosalie) Wente, Wayne (Linda) Wente, Jerry (Karen) Wente, and Art (Mary Rose Hoene) Wente; brother-in-law, Eldon (Judy) Joergens; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Jeannine.
