Robert Glen Maples, age 69, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 6:19 PM – Thursday, February 6, 2020, at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Funeral services celebrating Robert’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 14 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Ray Blair officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Cemetery near Falmouth, Illinois. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service. In loving memory of Robert, memorials may be made to the Jasper County Agricultural Association.

Robert was born on September 9, 1950, in Olney, Illinois, the son of Harold and Ruby (Luterno) Maples. He married Betty Jo Berner on September 9, 2008 in Falmouth, Illinois. Robert worked as a laborer for many years and retired from Labor Local #1280 of Robinson, Illinois. Robert was a member of the Chapel Church in Falmouth, Illinois; and United States Trotters Association. Robert loved to train and race Standardbred horses.

Robert is survived by: Wife of 11 years - Jo Maples of Newton, Illinois; Sons - Ben (Laura) Durbin of Arthur, Illinois; and Ryan (Beth) Musser of Shelbyville; Grandchildren- LeLa Durbin, Louie Durbin, Rylee Durbin, and Kynlee Durbin all of Mattoon, Illinois; Gunner Musser, Kinzee Musser, Adison Musser, all of Shelbyville, Illinois; Greg Cullison of Arthur, Illinois; and Brianna Cullison of Urbana, Illinois; Great Grandchildren - Abby Cullison, Jasimine Mitchell, and Sofia Mitchell all of Arthur, Illinois; Brother – Richard Kent Maples – Mowequa, Illinois; Sisters - Linda (Bob) Finn of Newton, Illinois; and Jane Royce) Kibler of Normal, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gene Maples and a sister Janice Helm.
