Katherine B. "Kay" Wear (101) of Effingham

Katherine B. “Kay” Wear, 101, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2020 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1 at the First Presbyterian Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Katherine was born on June 22, 1918, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Oscar and Frieda (Johnson) Larson. In 1943, Kay married Harold Wear in El Paso, TX. He preceded her in death on July 31, 2000.

In addition to her love of sewing, Kay was active in numerous church organizations and activities. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Effingham and Home Extension. She volunteered with Cub Scouts, the hospital auxiliary, and The Cross at the Crossroads. Kay enjoyed traveling, walking, reading, and fishing. She was also a lifetime Chicago Cubs fan and was able to watch the Cubs win a World Series on television.

Kay is survived by her sons, Bill (Sandra) Wear of Effingham, Jim (Kathy) Wear of Springfield, Fred (Jo Ann) Wear of Effingham, and Jack (Janice) Wear of Effingham; daughter, Kathy Madden of Effingham; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, Thomas Wear; grandchildren, Jodi Wear and Devon Wear; great-granddaughter, Harper Wear; and sister, Genevieve Jackson.
