Ruth Pearl Spraggins, 98, of Newton and formerly of Yale, IL. passed away at 1:45 AM Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the Newton Care Center in Newton, IL.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday December 28 at the First Baptist Church in Newton, IL. Visitation will start at 9:00 AM till service time at the church. Burial will be in the Yale Cemetery. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup is assisting the family.

Ruth was the 4th daughter of Marvin and Maude (Harris) Huddleston was born on April 18, 1921 in Yale, IL. She was greeted at home by her three sisters, Madge, Thelma and Coral. Ruth attended grade school in Yale and high school in Casey. On January 8, 1938, Ruth married William Forrest “Frosty” Spraggins. February 1, 1939, they became parents of James Marvin Spraggins and on November 9, 1942 they welcomed Ronald Forrest Spraggins; this completed their family. Ruth started working as a postal clerk in Yale in 1947. She was appointed acting Postmaster in the 1950’s. On April 2, 1963 she was appointed Postmaster, her certificate was signed by President John F. Kennedy. All total she worked for 42 years in the Postal service and she retired in 1989.

Ruth is survived by her son Ronald (Linda) Spraggins of Manitou Springs, Colorado; daughter in law Barbara Spraggins of Yale; Grandchildren Gary (Lisa) Spraggins, Shannon Spraggins, Shane (Kim) Spraggins and Ryan Spraggins; Great grandchildren Matthew, Michaela, Shyanne, Trenton and Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frosty in 1977, son Jim in 2007; three sisters Madge Dunne, Thelma Walden and Coral Stanley; and special friend Howard Stevens.

Ruth was baptized in 1970 and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Newton for over 40 years.
