Mark Walker, 75 of Altamont passed away at 3:40 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2019 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with a 1:00 p.m. Law Enforcement walk through on Wednesday December 18 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont. Private family burial rites will follow at Union Cemetery, Altamont. Casual attire is requested. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Mark was born on Wednesday, August 30, 1944 in Bloomington, Illinois, the son of Robert and Kathryn (Kendall) Walker. He married Brenda Lewis on April 8, 1983. He retired from the Altamont Police Department on November 19, 2003 where he served as patrolman from 1982-1987. He was promoted to Police Chief in July 1987 and served in that capacity for 16 years until his retirement. During his 37-year law enforcement career he had worked for the McLean County Sheriff’s Dept., Pontiac Police Dept., Decatur Police Dept. and the Effingham County Sheriff’s Dept.

Surviving are his wife Brenda of Altamont; daughters Angie (Leland) Brooke of Flanagan, and Annette Christerson of Decatur, and son Brad (Tammy) Walker of Harristown; grandchildren, Brittni (Kyler) Moore of Mt. Zion, Brenna York of Decatur and Kayli and Kendall Brooke of Flanagan.

Also, the family would like to thank special friends Kenny and Linda Martin of Altamont and his sisters-in-law and extended family and friends for standing by his side.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Kay Walker and his in-laws, Bill and Roze Lewis.
