Mary Catherine Einhorn, 92 of Effingham, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 4 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Island Grove. A combined C.D. of A. and CCW rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m., followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to the St. Anthony, St. Michael or St. Thomas Schools.

Mary was born September 25, 1927 in Effingham, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Zerrusen) Herboth. She married John J. Einhorn Jr. on September 15, 1953 and he preceded her in death in 1958.  In Mary’s early working years, she worked for Otto Schutz Printing Company and the State of Illinois in the Department of Transportation. She spent many years doing housekeeping and bookkeeping for Fr. Carl Schmidt. 

Mary enjoyed cooking; preparing foods and pies for many special church functions. She was a talented seamstress, making altar cloths and vestments for several area priests. Mary was a member and enjoyed attending mass at St. Anthony Church in Effingham.  She was also a past member of St. Joseph Church, Island Grove and St. John the Baptist Church in Coffeen, the Council of Catholic Women, Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Columbus 720 and the Secular Franciscans.

Mary is survived by her children, Linda (Paul) Will of Effingham, Chuck (Ellen) Einhorn of Newton and Karen (Kenny) Deters of Sigel; 11 grandchildren, Monica (Mark) Heuerman, Theresa (Jerod) Vogt, Jacob Einhorn, Ethan Einhorn, Meghann Einhorn, Amy (Scott) Spiker, Andrew (Jody) Deters, Maria (Brian) Teets, Jeffery Deters, Nicholas Deters and Julie Deters and 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Anna Marie Niebrugge of Effingham and special family friend, Fr. Carl Schmidt of Effingham.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brothers, Louis and Francis Herboth and sister, Agnes Rainford.
