Raymond C. “Ray” Nichols, 80, of Effingham, IL, passed away Friday morning, November 15, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Kerns Cemetery near Gila, IL. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Raymond was born on May 4, 1939 in Texarkana, AR, the son of Raymond F. and Annie (Cornett)Nichols. He married Beverly Kay (Weaver) Tarr on May 24, 1996 in Watson, IL. Ray was an over-the-road truck driver for many years. He was a religious man and enjoyed listening to the Bible as he drove. He also worked third shift security at Stevens Industries for 13 years and retired in 2009. Ray was a baseball and football fanatic. His dog and sidekick “Misty” was never far away.

Ray is survived by his wife, Bev Nichols of Effingham; children, Johnny Nichols and Jerry Nichols, both ofMaud, TX, Ranee “Nikki” (Damian) Syfert of Danville, and Adam (Jennifer) Tarr of Watson; step-children,Roger (Susan) Tarr of Newton, Susan (Rod) Sparks of Oblong, and Kevin (Ling) Tarr of Layton, UT;grandchildren, Scott Sanders, Brandy Sanders, Brent Barfell, Trent Stark, Victoria Stark, Juliana Pollard,Lexi Tarr, London Tarr, Chris Tarr, Josh Tarr, Baylee Sparks, and Alicia Tarr; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; and grandson, Michael Sanders.
