James Patrick “Pat” Stanley, age 71, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 1:11 AM Sunday, September 15, 2019, at his home.

Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, September 18 at Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton, Illinois, with a celebration of life service to follow, with Kevin Colclasure, Dan Evans and Randy Lane officiating. Private burial will be in the Honey Cemetery in Bogota, Illinois. In loving memory of Pat, memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Fund PO Box 333 Newton, IL 62448. Pat was born on February 9, 1948, in Olney, Illinois, the son of Hobert and Nellie (Brackett) Stanley. Pat graduated from Newton Community High School in the class of 1966. He graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, with a Bachelor of Science in Education; he then graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Master of Science in Education.

He was a long time teacher and principal in Jasper County Schools. He enjoyed being with family, traveling, attending children/grandchildren various sporting events and gardening. He married Marianne Roberts on August 30, 1968, at Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton, Illinois.

Pat is survived by his wife Marianne Stanley of Newton, Illinois; son Sean Stanley of Bogota, Illinois; son Ben (Melissa) Stanley of Newton, Illinois; daughter Julie (Ryan)Uebinger of Monticello, Illinois and daughter Jennifer (Lamar) Blassingame of St. Charles, Missouri. He is survived by 4 grandsons Ky Stanley, Jacob Stanley, Wade Uebinger and Tre’von Blassingame and 5 granddaughters Madisson Stanley, Alisson Stanley, Jossie Stanley, Hannah Uebinger and Lydia Blassingame. He is survived by sisters Sue (Earl) Walden of Mattoon, Illinois; Beth Shadley of Champaign, Illinois; and Mary (Jerry) Parker of Champaign, Illinois; a brother Michael Stanley of Bogota, Illinois; mother-in-law Juanita Roberts Lindsay of Newton, Illinois; brother-in-law Tom (Jeri) Roberts of Rockwall, Texas; and sister-in-law Carol (Dan) Evans of Browsburg, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Irvin “Irb” Roberts, brother Paul, and brother-in-law Charles Shadley.
