Steven Ray Chancellor (66) of Richmond, TX

Steven Ray Chancellor, 66 of Richmond, TX walked into Heaven on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX after a two and a half year battle with ALS.

Funeral services will be held at Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL at 4:00 pm on Friday, July 26. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm. Burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery.

Steve was born in Mattoon, IL on April 24, 1953 to Vance and Marilyn (White) Chancellor. He was a graduate of Cumberland High School Class of 1971. He married his high school sweetheart, Rita Bland in 1973 and eventually settled in Lafayette, LA where he worked as a Communication Specialist for Marathon Oil Company. In 1999 he and Rita moved to Richmond, TX to continue his work internationally with Marathon until his retirement. In most recent years he has used his talents in a variety of capacities and different roles.

He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Rita; their daughter, Sarah (David) Collins of Albion, IL; son, Michael (Lacey) Chancellor of Tomball, TX; grandchildren, Grace (13), Wyatt (11) and Will (10) Collins as well as Finn (7) and Sawyer (5) Chancellor. Others include his step-mother, Anna Chancellor, sister, Becky (Harry) Pugh and brothers Tim Chancellor and Mark (Kathy) Chancellor along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and and one brother, Daniel Chancellor.

Steve was an avid Amateur Radio Operator (KF5M), enjoyed computer programming, remote control airplanes, hiking, camping and geocaching. He coached his son’s soccer team for over ten years and through that experience discovered a love for the sport that allowed him to play in an adult league. He loved Jesus and had a heart for mission work; he went when he could and sent others when he couldn’t go. He was a kind man who offered a testimony of a life well lived for the Lord. He was a faithful husband, a loving dad, a fun grandpa and a great example of honesty and integrity to anyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed.
