Loy M. Simcox, 85, of Altamont, Illinois died at 6:50 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2019, at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont with Pastors Dan Laack and Paige Campbell officiating. Burial with military rites by American Legion Post 512 and VFW Post 7676 will follow at Union cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 25 from 4-7 p.m. with Masonic services at 6:30 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service Friday at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont. Loy was born Monday, August 21, 1933 in Kinmundy to Loy L. and Pauline (Nelms) Morris and was raised by Porter and Pauline Simcox. He married Joan Hawkey Saturday, June 2, 1956. Loy was a member at First United Methodist Church, Altamont where he had served as custodian, as a member of the United Methodist Men, and sang in the church choir. Loy was a speech pathologist at Altamont and Beecher City and Shumway school districts. He served as assistant Effingham County Superintendent of Schools. He was an Illinois Department of Corrections counselor at Vandalia Correctional Center. He was a life member of Gieseking-Schwertfeger VFW Post 7676 and Grobengieser-Fischer American Legion Post 512, Masonic Lodge 533, Order of the Eastern Star, volunteer at The Cross, FISH, Altamont Meals on Wheels, and was active in Prison Ministry, Boy Scout Troop 140 leader, and was a basketball official for many years, and a little league coach. Loy worked as summer help for Altamont schools for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, antiquing, gardening, clock repair, and going out for dinner with friends.

In addition to his wife of over 63 years, he is survived by; his sons, Brett M. (Christine) Simcox, Altamont, Brad S. (Deb) Simcox, Altamont; sister, Deborah Simcox, Vandalia; grandchildren, Brandon Simcox, Brittany (Jared) Miller, Bryce (Alexandra) Simcox, and Ashley (Joel) Sloan; great-grandchildren, Payton, Parker, Phoenix, and Chloe.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
