Victor A. Czerwonka, 94, of Sigel passed away on Tuesday March 19, 2019, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, surrounded by his loving family.

His funeral service will be Saturday, March 23 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sigel, Illinois with Pastor Earl Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Friday evening, March 22 at the church and one hour before the service. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery of Sigel, with military services conducted by the Sigel American Legion Post 1134 of Sigel.

Victor was born on October 26, 1924 in Cumberland County to Arthur and Ernestine (Gust) Czerwonka. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sigel of which he was a lifelong member. He served in the US Army from August 1944 to September 1947 at Ft. Lewis, Washington. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to the area and farmed until his retirement in 1989. Even after his retirement, he continued to work for area farmers providing help as necessary. He was a 70-year member of the Sigel American Legion and served on the Neoga School Board for 18 years. He also held several offices at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and bowled in the Lutheran League in Effingham for over fifty years.

Victor married Florence Traub at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Louisville, IL, on April 5, 1953. In addition to his wife of 65 years, he leaves his children, Cheryl Eastin of Neoga, Doug (Deborah) of Fenton, MO, Greg (Barbara) of Marietta, GA, and Randy of Effingham; Grandchildren Jeff Eastin, Craig Eastin, Christine Knobbe, Jonathan Czerwonka, Matthew Czerwonka, David Czerwonka, Jacob Czerwonka, Lucas Czerwonka, and Samuel Czerwonka; Great-Grandchildren Aubrey and Wyatt Eastin and Jared and Drew Knobbe. Brothers, Don (Leona) of Tuscola, Melvin (Janet) of Effingham, Madeline Horath of Mattoon, and Wanda (Lowell) Miller of Mattoon.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brother, Howard and sisters, Helen, Margaret, Lucille, and Delores. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

In Leiu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Sigel.

The Swengel - O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga is assisting the family with arrangements.
