Mary Ann Bernadine Swingler, 87 of Effingham, passed away Tuesday evening, February 26, 2019 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Sigel with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the church. Mary Ann was born June 8, 1931 in Sigel, the daughter of Otto and Lena (Koelsch) Swingler. She was a typesetter for many newspapers, which took her to live in Indiana, California and Seattle, Washington before retiring in Effingham. Mary Ann enjoyed line dancing, crocheting, sewing and crafts. She was an extensive traveler and visited many foreign lands. As a member of the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, Mary Ann volunteered at the gift shop and made many of their flower arrangements. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Church in Effingham and the International Typographical Union.

Mary Ann is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Swingler of Sigel; nieces, Cindy (Monty) Stephens of Sigel, Angie (Paul) Althoff and Kay (Rich) Mette, both of Effingham; nephew, Jeff (Kelly) Swingler of Sigel; eight great-nephews and four great-nieces.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and brother, George Swingler.
