James “Dudley” Cox, 63, of Shelbyville, Illinois passed away at home on Saturday, December 8, 2018.

James was born November 20, 1955, in Morton, Texas, the son of J.D. and Thelma (Sutton) Cox. He was an oil field driller for Nicor Drilling Company in Oklahoma, worked at International Paper for 11 years and was a truck driver. He was a talented guy and there was not much he could not conquer. He enjoyed scuba diving, prospecting for gold and fabrication.

Surviving are his sons: Brad (Rachael) Cox of Herrick and Donny Cox of Belle Vernon, PA; five grandchildren: Brittany Moore, Wyatt Cox, Damon Moore, Kade Cox and Ulicia Cox; brother, Jerry Cox of Lindsay, OK; sisters: Jeannie (John) Mascher of Herrick and Nettia Yates of Greenville, SC.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Mary Prater; brother, Danny Cox and nephew, Jason Brown.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 14 at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden with Pastor Leon Goff. Burial will take place in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in rural Ramsey. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden. Memorials may be made to Donor’s Choice.
