Judy Ann (Slifer) Davis, 77, of Effingham, IL, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at her home while surrounded by her loving family.

With her passion for growing flowers and her love of springtime, a celebration of life will be held in the spring when the leaves are out and flowers are blooming, as per her wishes. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family.

Judy was born March 2, 1941 in Beecher City, Illinois. She was the youngest daughter of Roy B. and Velma E. (Peifer) Slifer. She attended Beecher City Grade School, graduated from Effingham High School in 1959, attended Western Illinois University where she became the first woman in Illinois to skydive, and graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. She married Charles F. Davis on December 23, 1961 at the United Methodist Church in Effingham. Over the years, she resided in Huntsville, AL, Redondo Beach, CA, Cocoa Beach, FL, and Effingham, IL.

Judy retired from teaching at Beecher City High School where she taught English, Speech, Psychology, was the cheerleading sponsor, and as head of the Drama Club, put on the school plays, which she especially enjoyed. She was active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority, DAR, Effingham Garden Club, and Ladies of the Lake. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed gardening, attending plays, traveling, socializing with all her friends, and spending time with her family and her cats.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; son, Michael of Chicago; granddaughter, Siobhan Davis of Chicago; son, Stephen of Effingham; sister, Jo McKeon of St. Petersburg, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her sister, F. Belle Hagerty.
