Betty Catheryn Ruffner, age 82, formerly of Mason, Illinois passed away at 4:24 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Brookstone Suites in Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 2 at the Mason Christian Church in Mason, Illinois. There will be a one-hour viewing prior to the service. Mark White will be officiating. Burial will be at Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Betty was born on December 18, 1935 in Effingham, Illinois, the daughter of Olen F. and Lois “Lucille” (Webb) Percival. She married Clare “Gene” Ruffner on October 23, 1955 at the Methodist Church in Effingham, Illinois. She was a 4-H leader and a member of the home extension office in Effingham. She was also a Sunday School teacher and song leader at the Mason Christian Church for many years. Betty retired from Effingham Unit-40 as a school bus driver. She enjoyed helping on the farm with the horses, cooking, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Gary Ruffner (wife Judy) of Mason, Illinois; daughter, Cathy White (husband Steve) of Mason, Illinois; brother, William Percival (wife Doris) of Effingham, Illinois; 5 grandchildren, Sara Little (husband Clint) of Jonesborough, Tennessee, Billie Bales (husband Tom) of Shumway, Illinois, Jamie Ruffner of Neoga, Illinois, Jacob Ruffner (wife Marissa) of Mason, Illinois, Kylie Platt (husband Mike) of Columbia, Missouri and 2 great-grandchildren, Caleb and Bailey Little of Jonesborough, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olen and Lucille Percival and her husband, Gene Ruffner.
