Nelda Birch, 82, of Bible Grove passed away at 2:03 PM on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Centre in Effingham.Nelda Birch, 82, of Bible Grove passed away at 2:03 PM on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Centre in Effingham.

Nelda was born on December 30, 1935 in Dewitt County the daughter of the late Eldon and Nona Faye (Summers) Nichols. She married Bobby Lee Birch on January 16, 1955 at the Bible Grove Christian Church and he survives.

Mrs. Birch had worked as a nurse’s aide at Saint Anthony’s Memorial Hospital and was also employed in the bindery department at World Color Press in Effingham. Later she worked as a homecare aide with Addus Healthcare in Clay County. She was a Sunday school teacher at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Bible Grove and also at the Ingraham Christian Church. Some of her hobbies included sewing, gardening, canning, babysitting children and reading her bible. Nelda was a giving person and she had a real desire to help those around her.  She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Dan (Regina) Birch of Bible Grove, daughters, Debbie (Danny) Kepley and Carol (Greg) Kepley both of Ingraham, Brothers; Ed Nichols of Kansas, IL, Cletus (Louise) Nichols of Clinton, Merle (Mary) Nichols of Mt. Zion and Fred (Linda) Nichols of Eva, Alabama, Sisters, Gerry Griffith of Clinton, Frances Nichols of Clinton and Peggy (Richard) Deffenbaugh of Monticello, Nine Grandchildren and 17 Great-Grandchildren and by several nieces, nephews and friends. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Triplett & Neal Funeral Home in Louisville. Interment will follow at Shouse Chapel Cemetery in Bible Grove. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5 until 7pm and from 10 am until the time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ingraham Christian Church.
