Shirley Ann Dillon Colman, 80, of Louisville, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday October 5, 2018.

Shirley was born March 21, 1938, in Oskaloosa, Illinois to the late Clyde and Stella (Eskew) Painter.

Shirley loved to write, loved her church, loved God and loved her kids and grandchildren more than anything. Shirley enjoyed travel and telling jokes to bring people joy. Holidays also brought her joy. Christmas Eve was her favorite when all of her family would gather together with her on this special day. Shirley loved celebrations, especially later in life, celebrating with grandchildren; graduations, weddings, and special occasion celebrations.

Shirley was a designer of flower arrangements to brighten the lives of others. She was a teacher’s aide earlier in life and was a Mary Kay consultant for 25 years. She was very involved in church and loved to give back to the church doing Bible study, running the VBS kitchen, and believed strongly in serving; especially when it came to service dinners and service to the church. Shirley loved music and attended the Edgewood Opry every Friday evening. Her favorite singer artist was Daniel O’Donnell, and she traveled to Branson, Missouri three times a year to hear him. Shirley also enjoyed listening to Willie Nelson. She was married at 16 and was a devoted and loyal farmer’s wife of 64 years, married to Robert Lee Colman. She and her husband Robert built a family farm together, they worked hard and enjoyed a life together for many years having started their marriage young in life. Shirley often brought meals to the field workers on their farm. After the work of harvest season was done on Friday nights, the family would enjoy a smores and weenie roast down by the river.

Shirley was loved by many and will be missed by her husband Robert, her 5 children; Chris, Cindy, Tim, Cathy and Tony, her 10 grandchildren, and her 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom were loved and adored by Shirley.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Bill Painter.

Shirley’s favorite Bible verse was. Ephesians 2:10 "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." Shirley now goes with the Lord to celebrate her good works and enjoy Him forever. She will be missed.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, October 10 at the Bethel Christian Church in Louisville. Brother Joe Smith and Chris Colman will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until the time of services on Wednesday at the church. Interment will follow at Oskaloosa Cemetery. Because Shirley believed in and loved supporting missions, memorial contributions are suggested to Bethel Christian Church Louisville IL, to the Shirley Colman Missions Fund, 2832 Jaeger Lane, Louisville, Illinois 62858 or to The Oblong Christian Children’s Home, 4094 East 1050th Avenue, Oblong, Illinois 62449 or to the Oskaloosa Cemetery.
