Helen Moll, 98, of Altamont died at 4:45am Friday, October 5, 2018 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 8, at the First United Methodist Church, Altamont, with Rev. Paige Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran School, 515 South MacArthur, Springfield, 62704 or the donors’ choice.

Helen was born on Friday, September 10, 1920 in Mound Township, rural Altamont, to Arthur and Mary Stettbacher Zimmerman. She married Cecil H. Dammerman on June 15, 1941 in St. Louis and he was killed in action off Okinawa on April 28, 1945. She married Edwin A. ‘Ep’ Moll on April 6, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altamont and he preceded her in death on February 3, 2003.

She attended Brown Business College in Centralia and was then employed at the Altamont Garment Factory for many years. On January 27, 1967 Helen began a long career as Altamont City Clerk serving under the mayoral administrations of Fred Naumer, Lambert Franzen, Ray Gilbert, Carl Brauer and Larry Taylor, retiring in 2003.

Helen was a lifetime member of the Altamont First United Methodist Church and a member of the Gieseking-Schwerdtfeger VFW Post 7676 Auxiliary. She was honored as the Altamont Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1992.

She is survived by her sons; Eugene (Carol) Dammerman of Anna and Ron (Peggy) Moll of Springfield. Grandchildren; Lisa (David) Kowalski of Effingham, Michael (Carmen) Dammerman of Cobden, Brett (Johanna) Moll and Brittany (fiancé Ryan Becker) Moll, both of Springfield. Great grandchildren; Mikayla and Megan Dammerman, Justin, Alex, Drew and Jason Kowalski and Hudson Moll.

In addition to her husbands, Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Rosalie Byers.
