Susan Mae "Sue" Woltman (78) of Effingham

Susan Mae "Sue" Woltman, 78, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at her home.

A celebration of Sue’s life will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, August 26 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home. According to Sue’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, rural Effingham at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Master’s Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in Effingham and will be donated to local charities or donor’s choice. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here. 

Sue was born on October 14, 1939 in Oak Park, Illinois, the daughter of Rolland and Anne (Becvar) Weismann. Sue graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School in 1957. She was a member of the Village-Aires, a cappella choir, operettas, and other choral ensembles in Oak Park. Sue then went to Illinois Wesleyan University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority and Choral Ensemble. She married Roger Woltman October 21, 1961. They were blessed with one daughter and two sons, Dana, David and Danny. The family moved to Effingham in 1972. Sue was an owner operator of the Painted Daisy in downtown Effingham, worked at World Color Press in Effingham and finished her work career at Siemer Milling Company in Teutopolis. Sue was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Effingham. She served the church in many different capacities, and truly enjoyed singing in the church choir and special religious occasions. Sue was a long time member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, member of the Effingham Country Club and Effingham Women of Today (EWOT). She was an election judge and a volunteer for the Effingham Chamber of Commerce. Sue was an organizer of the local March of Dimes Walk America for many years and a two-time participant in the Dale Carnegie course, once as a student and once as a team leader. Sue enjoyed bowling, golfing, painting, cooking and knitting baby hats for local hospitals.

Sue is survived by her daughter, Dana (Dan) Burke of Georgetown, KY; sons, David (Julie) Woltman of Effingham and Danny (Diane) Woltman of Effingham; grandchildren, Jessica (Nathan) Camp, Casey Burke, Brian Burke, Michelle Woltman, Michael Woltman, Meghan Woltman and Jenna Woltman; and brother-in-law, Charles Gaskill of Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Nancy Gaskill.
