Robert J. “Bob” Cohorst, 60, of Effingham, IL, passed away early morning on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

According to Bob’s wishes, cremation rites will be respected. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 25 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham at a later date.

Bob was born on July 21, 1958, in Effingham, IL, the son of Norbert and Agnes (Nuxoll) Cohorst. Bob graduated from Newton High School in 1976 and from Eastern Illinois University in 1980. He married Sally Sheridan on October 6, 1984. They were blessed with two sons, Tony and Andy. He was employed by Beck’s Hybrids at the Neoga facility. Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, where he served on the Building and Grounds Committee. His most rewarding job was as the project manager for the construction of Sacred Heart School. He was also a member of the Effingham Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his family, going for walks with his dog Shadow, and traveling. He also loved being able to share hot air balloon rides with family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sally Cohorst of Effingham; sons, Tony (Becky Myers) Cohorst of Effingham, and Andy (Aubrie Anderson) Cohorst of St. Paul, MN; his dog, Shadow; brothers, Tim Cohorst of Montrose, IL, and Tom (Janis) Cohorst of Cary, NC; sister, Mary Kay (Dennis) Gatchel of Decatur, IL; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cindy (Mark) Carlson, Jayne (Mark) Calvert, Vicki Kocher, and Becky (Jan Himes) Sheridan; nieces and nephews, Cara Gatchel, Beth (Kurt) Davies, Katie (Tripp) Lineberry, Sara (Andy) Ramirez, Kristen (Brian) Mellen, Karen (Dan) Janek, Erin Calvert, Ryan (Victoria) Calvert, Brent (Amy) Kocher, Rodney (Cheryl) Kocher, Jodi (Lin) Mabrey; and 10 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Leonard and Olivia Sheridan; special aunt and uncle, Sophie and Louie Kreke; and brother-in-law, Ben Kocher.
