Helen Schumacher, 92, left this world on Tuesday, July 3rd 2018, at her home in Sigel, Il, under the loving care of her children.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 7th at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Sigel. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. wake service, with rosary following.

Helen (Hemmen) Schumacher was born on June 30, 1926 in Cumberland County, Il, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Waldhoff) Hemmen. She married the great love of her life, Bernard Schumacher Jr on August 4, 1945. He preceded her in death in 2005. Her other enjoyments in life were her 14 children, 49 grandchildren and 91 great grandchildren. Helen’s hobbies were gardening, making quilts for all special occasions in the family, cooking for her family and playing pinochle with family and friends. Helen along with her husband, also enjoyed watching all sorts of sporting events of their kids and grandkids, taking short trips, and visiting their children. Helen was a homemaker, bookkeeper and supported her husband in managing the family farm. Helen coached softball teams, was a member of St Michael’s Church, St Michaels Ladies Sodality, participated weekly for numerous years in a Bible study group, volunteered at Catholic Charities and St Anthony Hospital.

Survivors include her children Ruth (Bob) Beckman, Michael Schumacher, Lucy Polk, Paul Schumacher, Donald (Joyce) Schumacher, Mary Lou Esker, Tony (Deb) Schumacher, Vera (Bruce) Henderson, Joyce (Alan) Anderson, Reba (Les) Shadwell, Ann (Jim) Niemerg, Gail (Brian) Hardiek, Sara (John) Schumacher Schmidt, Jane (Jeff) Cornell; brothers, Frank Hemmen Jr, John Hemmen; sisters Lucy Uptmor, Lou Ann(Ken) Niemerg, and Pauline Hoedebecke.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bernard Schumacher Jr., her brother Hank Hemmen, sister Carrie Verdeyen, grandson Brett Kemme, granddaughter Anita Schumacher, son-in-law Bill Esker, and daughter-in-law Linda (Ritter) Schumacher.
