Cathy K. Esker, 60 of Teutopolis, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 29 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday evening at the church. Memorial donations may be given to the wishes of her family. Online condolences may be expressed by clicking here.

Cathy was born July 26, 1957 in Newton, the daughter of the late Donald L. and Mary Alice (Seckinger) Line. She graduated in 1975 from Newton High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with teachers certification from Eastern Illinois University on May 17, 1979. Cathy was united in married to Daniel R. Esker on October 4, 1987. Cathy later continued her education and received her Masters of Science in Education with a Major of Guidance and Counseling from Eastern Illinois University on December 16, 1995.

In 1979, Cathy began working at Crossroads Press in Effingham as a graphic artist and technical photographer for the Training Department. She was promoted to Training and Communications Coordinator in 1981 and promoted to Director of Training and Communications at World Color Press in 1989. Cathy served as editor of "The Tear Sheet", a monthly publication for employees of Crossroads Press and was chosen as the Young Careerist for the state of Illinois in 1985. In June 1992, Cathy became the Public Relations Manager for St. Anthony Memorial Hospital, then moving on to her 20-year career with the Teutopolis Community School District in August of 1997 as a school counselor, retiring in May of 2017.

Cathy participated in various activities throughout her life. She served as Chairman of the American Cancer Society, participated in the Lord Effingham Toastmaster's Club, was a member of the Effingham Professional Women's Club, played in the Effingham Women's Tennis League, and volunteered at Catholic Charities. Cathy was a long time member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Dan of Teutopolis; daughter, Dakota of Nashville, TN; sister, Terry (Lee) Webb of Newton and brother, Kelly (Tammie) Line of Effingham; along with several nieces and nephews.
