Norman E. Copper, 89, of Newton died at 2:46pm Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Villas of Hollybrook in Newton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Tuesday, May 15 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ste. Marie, Illinois with full military rites provided by the Ste. Marie American Legion Post #932. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Monday at the church and 1 hour prior to the mass. In loving memory of Norman, memorials may be made to the St. Marie American Legion or the Ste. Marie Foundation.

Norman was born on July 20, 1928 in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Herman “Kroger” and Emma (Fehrenbacher) Copper. He married Jeanine L. Rennier on November 24, 1955, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stringtown, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on April 2, 2005. He then married Emma Gene Kingston Kious on November 4, 2006, and she preceded him in death on March 3, 2018. Norman served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart for his service. Norman was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed all aspects of farming. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #1704, Ste. Marie American Legion Post # 932, and the VFW. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and dancing.

Norman is survived by: Children - Jerry (Leann) Copper of Decatur, Illinois; Joe Copper of Ft. Branch, Indiana; Bill Copper of Newton, Illinois; Kathy (Scott) Mosher of Effingham, Illinois; Linda (Steve) Zumbahlen of Dieterich, Illinois and Cheryl (Kendall) Yorn of Allen Texas; Grandchildren- Brandon Copper; Lance (Maria) Zumbahlen; Eric (Jina) Mosher; Brock (Ashley) Zumbahlen; Kelsey Mosher; Anna Copper; Brittany (fiancé Michael Probst) Zumbahlen; Luke Yorn and Jake Yorn; 6 Great Grandchildren; Sister- Romonna (Johnny) Ochs of Ste. Marie, Illinois.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, wives, sister Delores Brockett an infant sister.
