Raymond H. Jones, 90 of Effingham, passed away Monday evening, April 16, 2018 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 20 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery with military rites. A parish prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m., with visitation being held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony Schools.

Raymond was born September 23, 1927 in Effingham, the son of Walter E. and Frances E. (Having) Jones. He married Lorraine C. Westendorf on October 28, 1950 and she preceded him in death in 2015. Raymond served with the United States Navy during WWII and was a life member of the Effingham V.F.W. Post #1769. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Raymond was a meat cutter at Kroger for over 30 years. In the 1950’s and 60’s, he was a softball pitcher for Firestone. He was an avid gardener, hunter and enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Raymond will be sadly missed by his family. They include his two sons, William W. (Carolyn) of Naperville and Randolph L. “Randy” (Kathy) of Effingham; sister, Dorothy Grunloh of Effingham; six grandchildren, Jacob Jones, Deanna Moody, Allison Jones, Darin Jones, Christopher Jones and Anna Jones; five great-grandchildren, Owen Moody, Audrey Moody, Emmalyn Moody, Corinne Jones and Avery Jones.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lorraine.
